The Benefits of External Cladding

External cladding is used to cover external elevations, and there are a range of different types to choose from. Our Weatherboard Cladding which gives off a New England style is known for its choice of colour, whereas our UPVC Shiplap and V Joint Cladding offer a classic, more traditional product.

External cladding can be fixed horizontally, vertically or even diagonally if necessary, and can be installed over a number of different materials, making them suitable for most, if not all homes. Some of the ever-expanding benefits of external cladding include:

Aesthetic Choice

Adding cladding to the exterior of a building not only creates a professional and neat look to the finished structure, but with the choice of colours available, you really do have full control over how you want your property to look.

We stock Weatherboard cladding in 8 colours, meaning that you can choose the best colour to either stand out and make an impact, or blend better in with the house’s surrounding architecture. Customising your home like this is not only pleasing to the eye, but can give your home some added appeal when it comes to selling on down the line.

Low Maintenance

PVC cladded walls are low maintenance when compared to painted walls, or even timber cladding. Often, washing or a wipe down is the only maintenance cladding needs, and using specialist products such as PVCu Solvent Cleaner can make the job even easier and result in longer gaps between washing.

This makes external cladding a great solution for those who don’t have the time to dedicate to repainting their property, and are looking for a smart and stylish, yet easy upgrade to their home.

Structural Safeguarding

Installing cladding to a building effectively adds a new layer of protection to the property. It reduces the amount of moisture that can penetrate the property, and condensation can be expelled through ventilation systems, which will help to prevent rot or mould growing over time. This enhances the structure and makes the building overall less susceptible to damage.

Added Insulation

Cladding can offer quite high levels of insulation depending on the specific thickness used. This applies to both temperature insulation and noise insulation, so it can be especially useful in more built up, urban areas. Temperature wise, this can even lead to a decrease in energy bills when the temperature is regulated during the colder months.

Adding Financial Value to a Property

Not only does it look great, external cladding helps to insulate and protect buildings, it is therefore seen as an asset to have on a home. Though the initial investment can be costly, it could drastically increase the value of your home should you wish to move on and sell, and even if not, can have some great effects on energy efficiency.

Adding cladding to your home can also eliminate the need to spend on further maintenance or repairs in the future due to its durability.

Increased Safety

All of our external cladding is made from PVC as opposed to traditional timber cladding, meaning it isn’t flammable or combustible. Our PVC cladding and Fortex weatherboards carry a fire classification of D-s3, d2/(AHM).

Although the spread of flame across PVC is slow, there is still a possibility that the material may char and break away, however this is far less of a risk than timber, which ignites easily. Our ranges of plastic wall cladding have gained BBA Certification as well as being British Standards Registered.
