Is Fibre Cement Cladding Good?

How long does fibre cement cladding last?

The fibre cement wall cladding we stock is exceptionally robust, with a lifespan of at least 40 years. However, according to the Building Research Establishment tests it can last for 60+ years if it is installed and maintained properly.

Fortunately, the fibre cement cladding boards do not require heavy upkeep. To freshen up the boards, you should first use a garden hose to spray down the surface twice a year, or once every six months, to remove any dirt, dust, or other debris.

Secondly, it is crucial to routinely inspect the caulking on the cladding. If the caulking appears worn-out or is beginning to come away from the surface, you should add fresh caulking to restore the neat finishes of the cladding.

Additionally, although Cembrit cladding does not need painting upon installation, you may choose to periodically repaint the surface of the cladding if it’s subject to heavy wear and tear. Once painted with our touch-up paint, however, you will be able to enjoy the colour payoff for a minimum of 10 years.

Finally, you can rest assured knowing our Cembrit cladding range is supplied with a 15-year warranty for your peace of mind!

Is fibre cement cladding safe?

Fibre cement is one of the safest materials to use! Because fibre cement cladding is non-combustible, it provides exceptionally high levels of safety. Additionally, it has an A2-s1, dO fire protection certification - this fire protection rating is valid for fibre cement cladding that has joints between the boards that are no wider than 3mm. This means that it will not give extra fuel to a fire when exposed to a direct flame or high heat. To read more about fire ratings, click here.

Working with fibre cement cladding is also beneficial because it performs well in all weather extremes. When it has been fitted properly, it will not show any visible indications of damage even after being exposed to heavy snow, rain, or extreme heat. It also boasts an algae, germ, and rot resistance surface.

Exposure to rain won't cause the fibre cement to split, decay, or warp. Fibre cement also has UV protection, so it will maintain its immaculate condition even in direct sun.

Pests and other rodents can quickly eat through materials like wood and set a home in your house. This issue is not present in fibre cement cladding. Due to their unique combination of materials, fibre cement cladding boards are resistant to damage from woodworm, nesting birds, and other forms of degradation you would commonly see in timber cladding.
