Is Cladding Flammable?

When purchasing cladding for your building, it's important to check whether or not you are buying fireproof cladding. Some cladding materials such as timber or insulated steel profile cladding may not have the appropriate fireproofing qualities. However, our Shiplap, V Joint and Weatherboard PVC Cladding all carry a reaction to fire classification of D-s3, d2/(AHM). This means that the system is not classified as non-combustible and may be used on buildings with no storey 18m or more above the ground and 1m or more from a boundary. With minor exceptions, the system should be included in calculations of unprotected area.

The PVC material does tend to char, and there is the chance it may fall away when exposed to fire, however it does not allow for much spread of flame across the surface area. Combustible materials behind the cladding may not be fire resistant and due consideration should be applied to these in the event of a fire. Cavity barriers should be incorporated behind the cladding where necessary. This is required under the relevant national Building Regulations.

Our plastic wall cladding ranges have gained both BBA Certification as well as being British Standards Registered.
