How To Fit Internal Cladding

What is internal cladding?
Internal cladding is used to cover interior walls. Usually manufactured using PVC, it is a low-maintenance yet durable alternative to other wall coverings such as tiling or wallpaper.
Internal cladding can generally be affixed over the top of pre-existing wall covering like tiling or timber without the need to remove the original covering. This makes it a great option for those looking to refresh their interior space quickly and easily.
It is also super versatile – internal cladding can be used in any room of the house, including kitchens and bathrooms. Because it is waterproof and completely seamless once installed, the cladding will not be damaged or affected by dampness or humidity, making it perfect for bathrooms and showers!
What you’ll need for an internal cladding installation
- PVC internal cladding panels and trims
- Adhesive
- Silicone
- Measuring tape
- Handsaw or jigsaw
- Pencil
Before you start...
- Because cladding panels can expand in warm or humid areas, it is important to give them at least 24 hours to acclimate to the environment before installing them.
- If your panels are protected by a film, keep it on until the installation is finished. The panels will be less likely to sustain damage.
- There are different techniques for cutting the cladding panels depending on the tools you're using. The panels should be cut with the decorative side facing up when using a handsaw, or with the decorative side facing down when using a jigsaw.
How to clad an internal wall
- To install internal cladding, follow these steps:
- Cut the corner trims to the right height and adhere them to the wall using adhesive.
- Insert a panel into the trim on either side and note the panel's location on the wall using a pencil.
- Cut your panels to fit the area you'll be covering and adhere them to the wall with adhesive. Apply silicone to the corner trims to help make sure that the seals are totally impermeable.
- Finally, add silicone to the inside end caps to guarantee that it is watertight, then apply adhesive to the outer edge and stick it to the wall.

There is not much that needs to be done for a wall to be prepared for cladding. It’s important to make sure that it is free of dust and dirt, just to ensure that the cladding can properly adhere to the wall, so we recommend giving the wall a wipe clean before starting your installation.
